Portable Fashions and Accessories

Best Buy 01/08/2010

iPods, smartphones and laptops are now part of everyday life, so, naturally, we’ve begun to do what we humans always do in these situations: we dress them up like Lady Gaga. And this year’s CES provides plenty of options for doing just that.

Show Some Skin

iCoat has wardrobe for your phone

Skins and laptop armor from Case-Mate, iCoat or Hard Candy Cases can wrap a colorful personality around even the most boring piece of hardware. From design-your-own skins to super-tough-and-practically-invisible protective film to polycarbonate-bubble shells, your little portable pal will remain safe – and stylish.

Ears to You

Safe and customizable Griffin MyPhones

The days of showcasing your plain white iPod earbuds as proof of your cutting-edge status are gone. Your earbuds can now be adorned with custom graphics, bejeweled, made to fit your ears and tailored to the type of listening those ears are into. And when it comes to safe headphone use for kids, the Griffin MyPhones protect their ears by always limiting the max volume level to 85 decibels – but still look really cool dispensing all that safeness. Rumor on the floor is there were earbuds for your dog, but we get most of our information from cats so you do the math.

It’s Not Easy Being Green, But It’s Getting Easier, and Anyway It’s Worth It

Vendors are clamoring to create alternative energy solutions for mobile devices, motivated by both convenience and eco-friendliness. The most promising technology in this camp is solar-powered chargers. Imagine recharging your phone or laptop or anything else with a battery, anywhere, without dipping into the power grid. Although several manufacturers were on hand to show off their wares, names like Solio (makers of small solar chargers) and Eclipse Solar Gear eclipsed the rest of the field and shined really bright (yeah, we said it).

When All Else Fails, Grab a Dancing Frog

iMini Pet... No ordinary dock

Finally, if you have everything you can think of for your iPod, you have to check out Ozaki’s iMini Pet. It’s an iPod dock available in lots of your fav animal species. And as your music plays, the iMini Pet dances to the beat. Spooky or cute? You be the judge.
